How to Have a Sustainable Thanksgiving?

How to Have a Sustainable Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving is an amazing time, we get to eat and have fun with friends. We also care about the environment, but it can be tough. We don’t want the guilt to kill our vibe. If only there were easy steps to make our Thanksgivings more sustainable without doing an unreasonable amount of work?

Well, the team at raj eco has compiled a small list of easy things you can do to create a sustainable turkey day without the headache. Here it is:

1) Food waste is a big problem in the US. Instead of wasting the extra food, freeze it and eat it later. Here is a guide online on how to freeze your food properly from the food network.

2) Consider giving extra food to guests to take home, everyone one loves stuffing.

3) When it is possible, use reusables. Normal plates are always more sustainable. If doing all those dishes is not possible, don’t sweat it. Our last tip will help with that.

4) Compost your food scraps. How you ask? Just take the carrot peels or vegetable peels and put them in the dirt or in a compost bin. Here is a good guide on how to do that if you are up for it: Composting 101.

5) If you have been using plastic or paper plates for your guests in the past, consider switching to the newest solution, biodegradable palm plates. They are sustainably made and can go right into the yard waste. Palm plates are even sturdier than plastic plates and more fun to eat on. Plus, this will massively reduce your carbon footprint.
